Built in 2006 to compete in the ‘Sound of Music’ build event at Science Olympiad in high school. Body and neck were built using wet carbon fiber layup over a male mold made with Styrofoam, chicken wire, and Play Doe. The epoxy-carbon fiber layup was then compressed down onto the mold with saran wrap and rubber bands. Fretboard, tailpiece, and bridge were hand carved from ebony and spruce. Given the high carbon level and high stiffness of the carbon composite used throughout the instrument, the sound quality was very realistic for such a rudimentary build.
